Trinity College Climbing Wall At Night

Trinity College Climbing Wall - At Night

A long exposure shot taken outside Trinity College last night. This is Trinitys brilliant and lovely looking climbing wall. I’m thinking of taking up climbing for the summer months, anybody want to give me a few tips/teach me?

Sunrise Thursday morning at Sandycove

Last Thursday I had another nice early morning out at (the fourty foot) Sandycove, there wasn’t that much of a sunrise like the last time though (40 Foot Sunrise – Sandycove). So, instead of thinking of it as a day/morning wasted, I took out a 2stop ND Grad filter and started to do some long exposure shots of the rocks. I really like these as a set, especially the last few below!!

Show off your long exposure photos!!

Have you taken any long exposure shots in the past few weeks/months? I’d love to see some of your shots of different scenes to give me and readers inspiration!! Leave a photo/link below!

A Short Photographic Hike

Lake - Dublin Wicklow Mountains

I took this amazing shot a few months ago when we had the lovely snow. The plan was to go out kayaking on the upper liffey but the roads were just too bad to drive on. Instead a hike was in order and BOY, what an amazing hike. Every so often half my body would dissapear into the snow – SO much fun. I did the hike again yesterday (on Paddy’s day) and it was just as beautiful! (There’s even a bit of hidden snow in the sheltered areas!)

Below is a map and link to google maps on where this hike is. I can see myself gong up there a lot over the next while for more shots.

Photography Directions/MAP - Lake - Dublin Wicklow Mountains

The hike can take anything from one hour to five hours depending on your fitness level (Photographic fitness & physical fitness) /dedication to photos on the day.

Let me know if you’ve been here before, taken shots (link me below by leaving a comment!) or plan on heading up in the near future!!
I’d love to see other peoples shots from this beautiful landscape!!

The Great Sunrise Of Glendalough Lake

It’s 3.20am and not a mouse stirring throughout the house, beep beep, beep beep. The alarm chirps & a groggy headed ginger erupts from the bed. Landscape photographer Kyle Tunney is back!!. It’s been a long time since I’ve actually taken any scenic/landscape shots and being honest, I haven’t missed it one bit. That is, up untill I got to the top of the mountain on Sunday.

Wow I love taking landscapes!!! Getting up at three or four in the morning, Driving, Hiking, Sitting/standing, watching, waiting, wondering, dreaming, listening, meditating and then finally a CLICK. What an amazing experience!!

Sunrise Sky photo from Glendalough Mountains
Lately there seems to be streaks from plane all over the sky. Loving them!

A great set of steps on the hike to the top of the mountain
These are the cracking set of steps you have to climb in the dark. Great fun!!

Beautiful little river on the way back down from Glendalough mountains
If you’ve never been here before for a sunrise, it’s an amazing experience. At 5am, it’s pitch dark, you don’t know where you’re going and can hear an amazing stream while walking up. It’s not for a few hours on your way back down that you get to see it.

A very long exporuse shot of the Glendalough mountains
This shot was taken as I was waiting for the sunrise. It’s a 360 second exposure/6minute photo with a 10stop welder glass on the lens. I was the first time to use this so had nothing with me to hold it onto the lens, it got a bit sore after 5minutes trying not to move or shake while keeping it glued to the glass. Looking forward to trying more of these!!

Photographing Landscapes – Early Riser

Make the most of the day – sometime over the next two weeks try get up extra early with your camera and take a few shots (and Yes… that does imply leaving the comfort of your bed, not just staying in bed with your camera :P ). You’ll feel great after, I promise!!

Dream Result World Tour – Dublin

Dream Result World Launch - Dublin

Last night The Great Outdoors put on a great show – They hosted the launch of The Dream Result Movie. I haven’t seen so many paddlers in the one place, so far away from water in quite a while (ps, WHERE the hell is all the water?). If you weren’t there you can see the trailer at the bottom of this post, some epic kayaking!!

Can’t beat paddlers

You just can’t beat paddlers, they have to be one of the best type of folk on this green earth. The energy and atmosphere was brilliant.

A cool shot from the movie Dream Result

Fun Plane Processing

Abstract Sky, a plane goes into space
I took this shot at sunrise yesterday and thought I’d go a bit crazy with the processing of the shot. I quite like the abstract photo in the end!

Abstractly processed plane

A before/after of the Abstract Sky photo

What processing in photoshop did I do?

This is the orginal photograph - Straight from camera

In camera raw I only changed the temperature/white balance by 400 as I shot in camera WB of ‘cloudy’. Now in photoshop:
dublicated the background layer
- Dodged the two planes/lines in the sky
- Added a ‘Color Negative’ curves adjustment layer
— Changed this layer to screen @ 20%
- Made a levels adjustment layer just for this layer
- Added a ‘Cross Process’ curve ajustment layer
—Change this layer to ‘Linear burn’ and you’re all done!!

Photoshop Video tutorial

Here’s everything I’ve done in a short video tutorial It’s pretty fast but afraid I don’t have the time at the moment to redo the video)

Any questions, Just ask!

Fourty Foot Sunrise

TOP of the morning folks, it sure is a beautiful day. We’re getting spoilt with all the lovely sunrise/sunsets the past week. This morning was no exception, I was out at the 40 foot in Sandycove by 6.30am. After about 25 minutes I was starting to get a bit impatient and thinking about leaving Within a minute of an amazing red orb of light started to protrude over the horizon.

Amazing Sunrise

Within seconds of the sun peaks its head birds started to flutter and swoop all around, what a magical morning!!

Wintry Water Self Portrait

Wintry Water Self Portrait - Kyle Tunney

Picture this!

It’s a fine wintry February day, the ground and cars are frozen over in the morning. Then there’s me standing out the back garden with nothing but shorts on.
Some say Stupid, I say fun
Some say lunatic, I say adventurous
Some say brrr, it’s cold!! – I say it’s worth it

It’s all in the name of a great photo. This is the first shot from this batch, I hope to get out the back sometime this weekend to retake the shot, this time I won’t leave till I get the exact shot I have in my head!!! Water isn’t the easiest to work with, I tried tempting it with chocolate and sweets but it was having none of it.

Anybody have any suggestions on how to get water to play nice?
