Enniscrone Sunset Sligo

I’m off in the West for a few days before the new year, it has to be one of my favourite places in Ireland to shoot. Sligo, Mayo & Galway have so much to offer. This is a shot from a few weeks back in Enniscrone, Sligo. The light was just superb.

I hope Christmas was good to everyone and you all have a healthy and happy new year!!

Iphone Sunrise Wicklow

This morning was absolutely beautiful, the sun had a beautiful glow around 6am and I had to take some photos. Sadly I was in a rush to get up to Dublin so didn’t even have time to run to the boot and take out the SLR. No better man than the Iphone in my pocket though! As they say, the best camera is the one that is with you, it couldn’t be more true!. Here’s the first Iphone photo I have posted on my blog.

Gigapan of snow covered Dublin

Most times I go out for a good hike in the Irish mountains I end up taking a 4-40 image panoramic. I then stitch them together, zoom in and out of it in Photoshop and am wowed. I’ve always wanted to be able to share this cool zooming capability with other people. Here’s a small one I put up on the blog a year ago, it’s a low res 60 panoramic image taken in Colorado, USA.

Snowy Dublin – What can we see here?

There’s so much to see in this one image of Dublin, the following are just a few small crops:

Snowy Dublin from the Dublin Mountains 2010

Last Friday I went on an amazing hike up the Dublin Mountains in the deep snow. Starting at Grange road in Rathfarnham, I went up the old Whitechurch road to Kilmashogue. From there we hiked up to three rock and came across some amazingly beautiful sights – The Irish Landscape like I’ve never seen before. The following is a little insight into what I saw on the day!

Huge panoramic

Next week I shall post a panoramic image you can zoom in and out of yourself. You can see Dundrum, the spire, Dublins convention centre and even Ikea all from the one image! Stay tuned!

Glendalough – Wicklow Stream

Wow was all I could say!! When I got home from my early morning hike last Sunday (5am start) and finally downloaded the images, my jaw dropped. I had never seen or created any images that had this sort of feel to them (without pp). It looks extremely dreamlike. In processing I have only upped the exposure by half a stop and brought out a little saturation. The original image can be seen here.

What do you think of this landscape shot?

Wicklow Glendalough Wicklow Glendalough

Wow wow wow… Every single time I visit Wicklow (Glendalough in particular) I fall more and more in love with the place. What is there not to love!?! It has to be one of my favourite places to visit, photograph, hike and chill out!

These shots where taking after a hike around the Spinc with the family 5/6weeks ago. There’s some photos of the lovely Buddy over on Pet Photography Ireland too.

Lower Lough Bray

A beautiful panoramic shot of Lower Lough Bray deep in the Dublin Mountains. You might remember I posted about this before under ‘A Short Photographic Hike‘, that gives you all the info you need on where this is and the hike itself. This was the second time I’ve done the hike. There was a good bit less snow but still a great hike.

See that house?

There’s some serious resolution in these last few pano’s I’ve been churning out. It’s really hard to convey it by just putting up a web image. I’ll try though – See the house in the image above? Here’s a closer look

I’m starting to see a recurring theme to my lastest panoramic hike shots – Meditative

Sunrise Thursday morning at Sandycove

Last Thursday I had another nice early morning out at (the fourty foot) Sandycove, there wasn’t that much of a sunrise like the last time though (40 Foot Sunrise – Sandycove). So, instead of thinking of it as a day/morning wasted, I took out a 2stop ND Grad filter and started to do some long exposure shots of the rocks. I really like these as a set, especially the last few below!!

Show off your long exposure photos!!

Have you taken any long exposure shots in the past few weeks/months? I’d love to see some of your shots of different scenes to give me and readers inspiration!! Leave a photo/link below!

A Short Photographic Hike

Lake - Dublin Wicklow Mountains

I took this amazing shot a few months ago when we had the lovely snow. The plan was to go out kayaking on the upper liffey but the roads were just too bad to drive on. Instead a hike was in order and BOY, what an amazing hike. Every so often half my body would dissapear into the snow – SO much fun. I did the hike again yesterday (on Paddy’s day) and it was just as beautiful! (There’s even a bit of hidden snow in the sheltered areas!)

Below is a map and link to google maps on where this hike is. I can see myself gong up there a lot over the next while for more shots.

Photography Directions/MAP - Lake - Dublin Wicklow Mountains

The hike can take anything from one hour to five hours depending on your fitness level (Photographic fitness & physical fitness) /dedication to photos on the day.

Let me know if you’ve been here before, taken shots (link me below by leaving a comment!) or plan on heading up in the near future!!
I’d love to see other peoples shots from this beautiful landscape!!
