Dublin Faces – Street Photography Ireland
Hello Hello,
I hope everyone had a brilliant break and new year! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I’ve been busy shooting and making plans for my photography for 2011. One of my ‘resolutions’ for this year is to process my personal work a bit quicker (some of you may know I have a few TB of work from the past three years to get through {If not, you do now…})
Faces
Over the past few months I have started to be amazed by peoples faces. There’s SO much going on, I think it’s the raw emotion that can be convey and picked up through a photograph that’s really appealing to me. Today I went into Dublins city centre to capture some faces. I’ve never tried any type of street photography before today but I really enjoyed it and will be heading out again for sure!!
Anyway, without any further ado, these are some of the faces I had the pleasure of capturing today in Dublin.

Street photography in Dublin
I really enjoyed shooting in town today and learnt quite a bit from it. Looking forward to doing it again soon.
Have you ever tried anything like this before?

Nice shots.
Are you not a bit afraid of people getting annoyed or people looking at you funny?
The first guy looks a bit peed off

Cheers Sean.
I didn’t really think about it to be honest. If somebody comes up to me after I take their shot, I’ll happily delete it. I don’t have to, but I’d be courteous.

Hi
I’m amazed too by peoples faces & you captured some great ones. Lots of stories behind them faces. I was kinda thinking the same as Sean though. Would love to try it someday. Did you stand in the one place or move around?

Quick Question.
What cam/lens were the most of these taken with?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:11 pm
Cheers Stephen!
Pauline, you definitely should get out there. So many super faces to see!! I was moving around for most of it. As it was my first time out, I was trying lots of different tactics. At the start I stood still and took shots of a few people. By the end I was walking around streets looking for people, if I passed them, I would then run back up the road and wait for them to pass again. This worked best for me
. I’m still learning on this front though

There’s a some real cool ones.
Btw. Did you read Tommie’s tweet? Here it is, mind yourself!
” Bruce Gilden finally gets a slap http://nyr.kr/hqLNYQ . He’s to street photography what Sinead O’connor is to religion! #streetphotography”

I hadn’t seen that till now, thanks for posting it! In fairness the way he goes about his shots, he deserves it. I’m still not sure what I think about his approach to street photography. He has some amazing images but I don’t think I could be the jerk he is on the street…… It comes across as if he has no respect for people IMO

Jaysus that guy is a douche. That’s awful!

Great set Kyle. Very impressive for just one days work – it looks like a portfolio that was built up over months. I assume you were using a long lens for these?

Thanks very much Kev! Yup using the 70-200 for the lot. It helped me capture a great close shot without getting up in anyone’s face.

Great set. The woman with the triangular glasses a (number 19) is my favourite. The texture in her face is fascinating in a strange way.
The clip of Bruce Gilden is well worth watching, for instructions on how to make people hate photographers.

Nice work Kyle. Really like the first one with the guy smoking and wearing the big ring. Man those eyes have stories! I’d love to try this real soon, always wanted to do more people shots especially interesting faces. Suitably inspired!

Nice project, i’ll have to give it a try sometime. It helps that you have an f2.8 lens. You got ‘real’ working class looking people, could try it on Grafton Street and get a totally different profile of people.

@Declan – Yes, his work is very interesting. Definitely something I wouldn’t want to be remembered for!!
@John – Happy to inspire. I’m looking forward to talking to the people next time and interacting. It will be interesting to see how much that images change
@Pa – Thanks, would you believe at least 70% of these shots are on Grafton street….

Great stuff Kyle,
Forget about BG, you’re miles ahead of that stuff.

Heh, I’m 90% certain that number 4 is Henry McKean’s mum (Newstalk’s Henry McKean)
Nice captures.

I loved the sensitivity of the photos. The images reminded me Sigur Rós.

They look really good Kyle!
