Grunge Princess – Behind The Scenes
In January I came across this location while driving along lots of back roads in Wicklow. The second I saw the woodland I knew there had to be a shoot here. Jumping out of the car, I took a few quick photos on my phone. I keep lots of reference images for planning shoots & showing the team prior to the shoot day.

After a few meetings with Mairead, finding the right model for our shoot and picking a date that suited the whole team, we then put together the style, plan and boards for the day.

Starting off nice and early in the warmth of Maireads house. We went over the days plan and then got down to work doing most of the hair/makeup before heading into the hills.

When we arrived on location there were about twenty kids looking pretty tired (Afterwards we learnt that they were out camping for the night and weren’t too used to the ‘outdoor lifestyle’). As you can see this didn’t distract the amazing Joyce & Emma from doing their thang!

Spot the stylist! If you can find Mairead below you can see just how high we had to climb, there was a lot of running and hill climbing done on this shoot!

Emma the perfectionist.

Mairead and Ewa went up into the hill to get in place for the first long range shot (we never used these in the end).

Emma and Joyce giggling away as I start my sprint across and up the hillside to shoot closer with Ewa. (Shot 2)

The two cheeky girls messing about thinking they’re out of sight.

They’re back to work doing an amazing job – as always.

The trek back to the road, it was interesting walking/running across all of these dead trees. Especially this last bit where most of my leg disappeared, bogland!

My stand-in model…Mairead.

Another full change (Clothes, Hair & Makeup) and we’re on to the last shot.

The dream team!

As always a HUGE thank you to all the ladies for making this shoot what it is. Without the huge effort & talent of everybody, we couldn’t have pulled this off!
